Friday Roundup

Happy Friday! It's been awhile since we've been blogging. Sometimes life happens and I don't even seem to have an extra moment to think. I spent a few days in LA, which was amazing to get out of the gloom of spring in Seattle and see some sunshine. It's been a busy week and the start of some fun new projects for me. But as always, a lot of stress and lack of sleep seem to come with new projects.

"I’m Wes Anderson, and I’m Directing This FBI Investigation Into Russia and the Trump Campaign"

Childhood dream job! (Yes, I was a huge dork as a child, and if you hadn't realized this yet, you must not have been reading the blog for very long)

Kick ass ladies to follow on Twitter

Freshen up your wardrobe for spring

I want this playhouse for myself

Spring drink

I binged the new podcast S-Town in a day an a half, have you listened yet? It was different than I thought it would be, but still great, the New York Times agrees.

The question we've all been asking about Big Little Lies, well, apart from the big question of who died/who did it, that is, if you haven't already read the book.

Black women your history class might have missed

Friday Roundup

Happy Friday!

I'm looking forward to getting dressed up and seeing friends and supporting the 30/30 Project tomorrow night! Other than that, I'll be laying low this weekend, catching up on sleep and staying cozy. As for the roundup, originally, I didn't intend for it to have a theme, but as I started putting it together, I realized most of the links I had were about amazing women, so I went with it!

Along those lines, the photo above is one Jason shot in Malawi a few years back. As I've traveled a variety of places, the one thing that seems to be consistent of women in small villages, whether it's in Malawi, India, Kenya, Cambodia, etc. you see them doing things in groups. I love to see how they support each other! I know have friends who have my back and I'm so thankful for them! But sometimes I wish my life was a bit more communal. I'd so much rather walk to work with all of my friends than sit in traffic by myself.  It's so easy to see women who have less than I have and feel sorry for them, but really, I think there are a lot of things we could learn from these amazing strong women.

And here are some more amazing women for you...

I wish I could be Zelda sometimes.

The Pro Hijab is awesome and a great way to better include all women in sports.

Lego's women of NASA, so cool.

"We Asked Our Grandmothers How Being a Woman Has Changed in Their Lifetimes"

Harriet Tubman = badass superhero

You're never too old to learn and these ladies are super inspiring.

Emma Watson hides books, I want to find one!

Meghan Markle wrote a great piece for International Women's Day...

"I Grew Up in the Westboro Baptist Church. Here's Why I Left"

Fearless girl vs. the bull

You can now find my favorite Uxibal boots at Anthropologie! Feel good about buying these quality boots as you're supporting the Guatemalan women who made them! And they hold up so well, I've worn mine in all sorts of conditions around the world for 3 years now.

Friday Roundup

Olá de Lisboa! Jason and I are in Lisbon, Portugal for a few days for a shoot. This is a beautiful city. I'm loving all of the color and painted tiles, but I think my favorite thing about Lisbon is the amazing seafood. And after the snow in Amsterdam last week, it's been lovely to be somewhere a bit warmer, sunnier and filled with sidewalk cafes.

I want to make this, it looks healthy and amazing.

Cheap travel destinations...well, let's call these relatively cheap.

A friend of mine started a food truck! If you're north of Seattle, check it out!

I want to try these jeans.

"Husbands are deadlier than terrorists"...as always Nick Kristof makes a great point and this is one of the best articles I've read all week.

Today is #randomactsofkindnessday so show someone some love.

Hello from a houseboat in Amsterdam! This is my view as I'm blogging this morning. That's the Mantelbaanstoren out the window. It's very chilly and starting to snow slightly. Jason and I are spending the month in Europe for a commercial project. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen that we were in Lisbon the last few days and it was beautiful and sunny! A nice break from Seattle, whereas Amsterdam weather has me feeling right at home :)

I might try and really live like the Dutch and cook this and this on the houseboat this weekend.

I'm eying this sweater, looks like the perfect color & weight for going winter to spring.

This article is speaking to me right now.

A foster parent who's gone above and beyond- Teresa sent me this, a great read.

This lip balm is keeping my lips happy in all this winter weather.

A different take on Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You" :)

I can't wait to get one of these rugs.

Kate McKinnon as Ms. Frizzle? Yes please. (Teresa! Perfect for Mylo and all his questions!)

I'm loving Christina Ricci as Zelda Fitzgerald on Amazon Prime.

"The Only Three Things You Need to Clean Before Having People Over"

Washington Wine...just one of many awesome things about our home state right now.

Happy Friday! I'm hoping for a calm weekend. It's been a busy week and I'm hoping my inbox stays relatively empty and I can breathe for a minute. Also, we get to shoot a wedding. I'm looking forward to that, it's been awhile!

Sad to hear that Mary Tyler Moore passed away this week. She was an inspiration.

Happy Friday! This has been a long and exhausting but very exciting week for me. My baby niece, Luna, was born yesterday a month early! She is small but healthy and will spend some time in the NICU. I'll post some pictures next week. :) We are so excited she's here.

Tomorrow is Patrick's birthday and the holidays are upon us so it's going to be a busy and festive weekend. What are you up to?

Here are some links to get us started:

What do you think of the new Pantone color of the year? I dig it (but green is my second favorite color and spring is my favorite season so there's that...)

I still haven't gotten around to getting a Christmas tree, so I'm just going to enjoy looking at this pretty ornament photo for now. You may have seen on the blog this week or my facebook page that I'm hosting an EParty for Karama Collection, it's going on until Tuesday the 6th!  The ornament above is handmade by Masai women in Tanzania. I'm buying a bunch to put on the top of presents this year, because cute ornaments make up for the fact that I suck at tying bows :) and also, it's fun to share the story behind the ornaments when I'm giving a gift.

Check out Karama Collection and use the code JKPARTY16 for 15% off your order.

Here's one thing I'll be buying for myself from Karama.

And here are other fun things on the web this week...

Drunk History does Julia Child and it is awesome.

Cat yoga!

I really want to see this movie.

This article hits on a lot of the things I was thinking while watching the new Gilmore Girls.

America Ferrera is awesome, Teresa sent me this and I relate to it so much.

Beautiful holiday decor.

The Full House house will always be!

Teresa also sent me this Patton Oswald tearjerker.

Thanksgiving Roundup!

I have a love/hate relationship with the week of Thanksgiving, I mean, who doesn't love a shortened week? But then, suddenly it's Wednesday, Thanksgiving is tomorrow, the week feels over and I feel like a slacker. I didn't even get a blog post up! So you get this. A roundup of things I'm thankful for. And yes, I'm thankful for my home, family, etc. this list includes a bit more out of the ordinary choices of the things I'm feeling thankful for in this moment in time...

I'm thankful for:

Christmas music starting early this year. I've found it to be the most uplifting thing since the election.

My two black cats. (If you want one, the Seattle Humane Society is adopting black cats for FREE on Black Friday, I promise your life will be better with a snuggly black kitty in it.)

GILMORE GIRLS! Excited to watch it with friends this weekend :)

Heather Christo's amazing recipes! I was sad and overwhelmed when I found about about my food allergies, but I'm feeling so thankful to have amazing resources that have actually inspired me to be cooking more. I'm planning a post for next week with specific recipes and foods that I've been loving lately.

The good I see in the world like these 21 Medal of Freedom recipients.

The sense of smell. I've been VERY into candles and essential oils lately and appreciate how they comfort, calm and help me to sleep and now I'm beginning to be hit with those wonderful holiday scents full of nostalgia, cinnamon, clove, evergreen...I love it all.

Rest and recharging. Sometimes my life is crazy, and sometimes it's calm. I'm loving that we're in a period of wrapping up projects and have a bit of a lull before we're gearing up for the next things. I've been going to yoga, catching up on things around the house, spending time with friends, and catching up on sleep. It's been wonderful and I'm trying to fully appreciate it now before life is chaotic again.

Really, there's so many things that I'm thankful for, and also, a lot of things that really suck, but sometimes, it's nice to take a break from thinking about those negative things and focus on what is good.

Wherever you are, have a wonderful Thanksgiving... or just a wonderful normal Thursday if you live pretty much anywhere outside of the U.S. :)

Happy Friday! And Hello! I've been a bit MIA from the blog. Life is very full for me right now, some of the things I love to do (like blogging and yoga!) are falling by the wayside in the midst of trying to find balance as a working mom of two. I do miss this though and I'm not quitting!

What are you up to this weekend? I am celebrating Friendsgiving with Jenny and some of our college roommates. I'm making this to bring and of course cranberry sauce.

Hope you have a great weekend, here are some links to get us started:

I want this giant rocking chair.

What a birthday party!

For you early birds: Goop already released their holiday gift guide.

I might be able to at least find time for this.

Happy Veterans Day and thank you to all of the men and women who have served our country. And to everyone else, I hope you have a lovely weekend as well. I'm looking forward to celebrating a mama and a soon to be here baby girl at a baby shower, some yoga, and binge watching something good! Red Oaks season 2 just came out, I've also still been meaning to watch The Crown and Good Girls Revolt!

As I've been processing my emotions of this past week, I've been taking a break from politics and social media the last few days so what you'll find here, is a list of happy things free of all of that.

In honor of Veterans Day, a super interesting podcast episode on the Women's Airforce Service Pilots of WWII from Stuff You Missed in History Class, and that's who's pictured above.

Hygge, it's what we all need right now. And what I'm attempting currently, as I'm ushering in the weekend on my couch with my favorite tea and a new candle.

The salad I'm making for the baby shower this weekend

Puppies to destress! (You MUST scroll down to see the chihuahua in a tortilla!)

Make yourself a fancy cocktail with The Sweethome's recommendation for barware.

Get yourself some amazing yoga leggings, just for the cost of shipping. (Ok, so this looked like one of those too good to be true things on fb, but I did it, and it took about a month for them to arrive, but I wore them to yoga today and they are AWESOME- and no one paid me to say this.)

In honor of Leonard Cohen, 12 covers of "Hallejuah", one of my all time favorite songs.

It definitely feels like autumn around here. I'm cozied up inside fighting a cold and a crazy storm is raging throughout the Pacific Northwest. I'm pretty sure my street looks like the above photo at this point. I'm planning on doing some reading and eating lots of soup this weekend.

It seems like all corners of the internet are filled with politics, and it's hard to find much else. I really appreciated Michelle Obama this week, she managed to so eloquently say many of the things that I've been feeling. Beyond that, this roundup will 100% free of politics! Just happy things here!

This has been my breakfast all week, which fits well, since it's #worldeggday

These just arrived, among a few other things, thanks crazy Shopbop sale! (still on until midnight!)

Happy Pride Weekend! For so many reasons, it's been a weird, tough few weeks, I feel like both the news and things I'm hearing from friends are all sad. Today and everyday when Teresa and I blog our goal is to share the things that bring us joy, but sometimes, you can't ignore the rest of what's going on. Sending love to you all.

If you're in Seattle, here's a list of Pride events happening around the city.
