The Best Wedding Card

I love this card from Iron Curtain Press! How right is this?!? You can get it here.

If you find yourself in survival mode while planning your wedding, here are my tips for the big day.

Wedding Wednesday!

It's been awhile since I've posted a wedding!

Jason and I spent Labor Day weekend hanging out with an awesome couple at Lake Tahoe. As I've said before, destination weddings are some of my favorites! But to make something a destination, you really don't have to go super far. Carolyn & Jordan and most of their friends and family popped over to Lake Tahoe from the Bay Area for a weekend of festivities culminating in a gorgeous wedding on Sunday. Here are a few of my favorite shots.

Just a fun wedding idea...

Because it isn't true until you declare it on a napkin! I thought these were a cheeky twist on the traditional monogramed napkins. Perfect to personalize cocktail hour.

A Very Northwest Wedding

Seattle Bride Magazine just published a couple of photos from Barclay and Mckenna's wedding that we shot at Kiana Lodge. They chose great shots (you can see their post here!) but there were a few more that I LOVED that they didn't use, so I wanted to share them here...

On White Weddings

This week I came across this podcast on the idea of the "White Wedding" from Stuff You Missed in History Class, and whether you're in the process of planning your own wedding or not, it's super interesting!

If you've ever wondered why brides wear white dresses, where the idea of registering for gifts came from or why most engagement rings are diamonds, give it a listen.

Mexico Wedding

As promised, here are a few of my favorites from Morgan & Ryan's wedding in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico last week. One of my favorite things about weddings in Mexico is the laid back vibe they all seem to have. I think it helps that most couples arrive at their destination a few days or more before the wedding. They're able to relax, unwind and kick it with their friends, so by the time the actual wedding day arrives, they're in vacation mode, and able to enjoy the day even more!

Another very cute part about this wedding, Morgan's parents met each other on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, just next to the spot where the photo above was taken!

If you're looking for more ideas and advice on destination weddings, check out this post I wrote a few years back.

Seattle Bride Photoshoot

A few months back, Jason did a wedding dress shoot that's featured in Seattle Bride! We worked with bridal stylist and author Lindsay Kenna who is awesome and beautiful dresses by Israeli designer Julie Vino. It was also extra fun to get to poke around the Escala (of 50 Shades of Grey fame) which was a perfect interior location for a shoot on a rainy Seattle day.

Check out the article & photos here!

Laura and Alex's Gatsby-Themed Wedding!

We had SUCH a fun weekend celebrating the marriage of my sister, Laura and her husband, Alex. As you might remember, they were married in January 2014 during the Grammy Awards in LA. It was an amazing experience but such a whirlwind and there were only a couple of their friends and family present. So they decided to throw a Gatsby-themed wedding celebration this weekend and said their vows in front of a larger crowd of loved ones. It was SOO fun and unique, those two definitely know how to throw an amazing soiree! We'll post more pictures later this week but here are a few from the always incredible JKOE that capture the beauty of the day.

Lake Chelan Wedding

This past weekend, we shot a wedding at Karma Vineyards in Lake Chelan. The night before the wedding, most of the bridal party was evacuated due to a wildfire in the area.

This is a GREAT example of a couple who dealt with a lot of stress in the 24 hours leading up to their wedding. Some plans were changed, some guests couldn't make it, but at the end of the day, you wouldn't have known, they looked amazing and it was a wonderful day of celebrating!

Hayley's hair and makeup people ended up canceling last minute but bridesmaids stepped up and her hair and makeup were flawless.

More than that, these guys chose to forget the little details of things that were changed last minute, and chose to enjoy the day. Because, really, the only thing that can wreck a wedding is if the couple chooses to stress out instead of enjoying it. When you're saying "I do" to the person you love, that's really all that matters.

And, in a lemonade out of lemons situation, the wildfire made for a really unique sky and beautiful photos.

A Beautifully Quirky Southern California Wedding

Here are a few photos from Cynthia & Wesley's wedding in Santa Ynez last weekend. I LOVED this couple's attitude towards their big day. They set out to create a fun weekend for family and friends and filled it with details that were uniquely them. Jason and I are always encouraging couples that we work with to put they own style into their wedding. Everyone has already been to the cookie cutter wedding, do something different. And these guys definitely did.

Fourth of July Wedding

I couldn't wait to share a couple of photos from our wedding this past weekend. Our friends Tim Lopez and Jenna Reeves, who met on the reality dating show, Ready for Love tied the knot at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.

Tim's mom and sister of La Fete worked with the couple to make the wedding gorgeous in a way that was uniquely them.

Jason and I first got to know Tim and Jenna when worked with Tim on a music video for his band, The Plain White T's.  At that point, they hadn't been dating long we're having to hide their relationship because the TV show was still airing! I have to say, I'm not someone who's ever really been into watching any sort of reality dating show. I've always been totally skeptical that it would be possible to find love on reality TV, but these two are the real deal, incredibly compatible and completely in love with each other.

If you're interested, here's People.com's article on their big day, complete with  more photos by Jason :)

Seven Questions for Seven Years

In honor of Teresa and Patrick's wedding anniversary on the 14th, I thought I'd ask Teresa some questions about her wedding and life these past 7 years...

Jenny: What's your favorite memory of your wedding day?

Teresa: My wedding day was such a blur, I always recommend that people get a wedding videographer because I barely remember anything from the day! That being said my favorite memory was probably the moment you have pictured above. Our ceremony was really personal and beautiful and yet simple. I loved looking out into the crowd at all of our family and friends and just basking in the love of our community celebrating our marriage.

J: Looking back, what is one thing you wish you would have done differently?

T: Oh man, I would have had a destination wedding! We had a huge wedding in Tacoma that lasted about six hours. Instead I would have a weekend away with three whole days to celebrate with a smaller group. Don't get me wrong, it was amazing to have a big crowd (see above) but in retrospect my anxious personality would have enjoyed a smaller gathering more I think.

J: What off of your wedding registry are you still using now? What do you regret not registering for?

T: I love the vases that we got and one of my dear friends from high school got us a gorgeous decanter that I've had on display for a lot of years. Patrick uses our coffee maker everyday. We didn't have a lot so we were grateful for everything. I just bought a Vitamix which I'm super excited about!

J: I know you have TONS of fun memories of life with Patrick, but what's one that sticks out?

T: Patrick is super friendly (unlike me) and on our flight home from our honeymoon he struck up a conversation with the person sitting next to him that led to us housesitting this mansion in Washington DC for the rest of the summer! Made me second guess my no chatting on planes policy...for a minute.

J: What do you think the Teresa of seven years ago would be most surprised to hear that you've done?

T: Chilled out. I'm definitely less high strung than I used to be, and I'm more honest about who I am. I wouldn't plan a 300 person wedding now because I know how much that would stress me out. Also, that I've kept working full time as a mom, I never thought I would have enough energy for that.

J: If you could give one piece of relationship advice to someone who's getting married now, what would it be?

T: Say you're sorry quickly. Patrick is so good at this and it has been such a gift in our marriage. Doesn't matter if it's something small or a big argument we try to say sorry very quickly (even when it's soooo hard) and it has saved us from a lot of pain. Saying sorry diffuses an argument and helps to start a conversation instead of just angry words.

Also, don't be afraid to do things separately! We have definitely benefited from vacations, activities, and friendships that are independent of each other.

J: Looking forward what do you think life will look like for you and Patrick seven years from now?

T: The next seven years will probably be just as adventurous as the first but in very different ways. Our life is focused on family and work right now, but having kids and settling down is it's own unknown adventure. :)

That was fun, thanks for asking, Jenny!

Wedding Wednesday

Here's a shot from our wedding last week on the beach in Santa Monica. I LOVED Tania's headpiece which was from Lovella Bridal

Enjoying Engagement

I LOVE this engagement photo taken my my good friend Johnny of Mazagran Photo. When I saw it, I knew I wanted to post it on the blog with just a short quick note to all of you our there who are planning your wedding.

It's not anything huge that I have to say. Just a reminder to enjoy being engaged. That is all. When you fall down a pinterest rabbit hole of wedding DIY projects, or find yourself tossing and turning at 3 am wondering if you made the right choice on the towels you registered for, or your fighting over the guest list or how much it's costing or what suit he will wear- don't forget why you're doing it all. It's because you found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with and in comparison, nothing else really matters.

DTLA Vintage Engagement Shoot

Jason and I had a lovely time doing engagement photos in Downtown LA with Anto and Tania this past weekend. We were thrilled that they rented a vintage Porche for the shoot.

When they explained their reasoning behind it, I realized it was all the more brilliant. Basically, since they don't have need for a car on their wedding day they thought it would be fun to incorporate it into their engagement photos. AND the best part is, we had plenty of time to shoot them in the car and really make use of it, rather than if they'd just rented it to drive away at the end of their wedding reception.
