This year I only have one real "resolution" -- to cook and eat more healthy foods. These past couple of years I haven't been cooking much and lately Patrick and I have gotten into the bad habit of eating takeout a few times a week. We both want this to change! So here are the steps I'm taking to eat more homemade green food in 2013, none of them are particularly original but I'm hoping they put me a path to healthy eating in 2013!

1)
Eat local and in season. I've joined a
CSA! Up until a week ago I didn't even know what CSA meant-- it stands for Community Supported Agriculture and basically means that you get a weekly or biweekly box of produce from a local farm! Every Thursday morning I am going to wake up to a box of delicious local produce right on my doorstep! (can you tell I'm excited?)
This book also looks great for seasonal recipes, might have to pick it up.
2)
Prep meals for later. I've come to accept the fact that I'm never going to be a person who cooks an elaborate meal every night. Therefore if we want to avoid takeout I need to make some food leaves leftovers or can be easily frozen for later consumption. Any ideas for good recipes that freeze well?
3)
Get back to eating gluten-free. My body loves it when I eat gluten-free but the holidays really put a damper on that. It takes discipline but it's totally worth it for me. To help me with this goal I recently bought my very first
rice cooker. It got great reviews, I'll let you know how it goes.
Any other advice/tips out there to keep me on track? What are your resolutions for 2013?

I'd say take turns cooking so that you get help from Patrick. Rich is a great cook, but in our early days he suffered through my cooking and me being stressed. Ask Jenny. Think of it as an adventure the two of you can experience together.

DeleteCheck out the book: Don't Panic, Dinner's In the Freezer! There is a second one, too: Don't Panic, More Dinner is in the Freezer! They're both full of recipes for make-ahead and freeze dinners. Not sure how many of them are gluten free, but it's worth checking out.

DeleteGreat idea! I've been wanting to do this for a long time. My MIL does it down in Auburn- she loves it, eats well, and looks great. Too bad they don't deliver to Belllevue :( anyone have suggestions for other services?!

I used to use Full Circle Farm and loved them. They deliver all over. Even Tacoma and Gig Harbor. I only stopped b/c we kept on being out of town and weren't' able to eat it all before it went bad.
