High School Reunion

This past weekend was my 10 year high school reunion. I went back and forth on whether I wanted to go or not and unfortunately, in the end, we were shooting a wedding and I missed the main event on Saturday. Seeing the pictures that people have already posted from it I wish I had been able to go. I did manage to hang out with a few old friends on Friday and Sunday though.

In many ways, I like to think that I haven't changed much since high school. But then, looking at pictures and reminiscing has convinced me otherwise. I'm happy to say, I LIKE MYSELF SO MUCH BETTER NOW!

Don't get me wrong, in many ways I had a wonderful high school experience, but looking back on it with 10 year's hindsight,  I wasn't me, not the me I am now.

I was a self conscious, worrying version of me. A beta version of Jenny if you will, constantly living in a state of stress, worried about the image others saw of me. "If I wear this, maybe people will think I'm pretty..." and "If I say this, hopefully they will think I'm cool..." were constant thoughts running through my head.  And before you tell me that everyone's high school experience was just like that, did I mention that I actually worried a hole into my stomach? Yep, I had a stomach ulcer in high school. Technically not caused by stress but made infinitely worse by it.

Part of me wishes I could go back and do it again. I wouldn't be afraid this time. But then again, high school was a lot of work. Instead, I think I'll try to continue moving forward as a better version of myself.

Have you had a high school reunion yet? Did you go?

  1. My reunion was this past summer, but I didn't go. I conveniently live thousands of miles away so it wasn't a huge priority. Teresa went to my high school - I was wondering if she went! I'm sorry I don't have any old pictures of her I can find, unless I dig out my yearbooks ;) I wrote about my non-experience here: http://holdingthedistaff.blogspot.com/2012/08/the-reunion.html
At any rate, while it would be great to see people, the internet makes the reunions almost unnecessary

    1. Hi Gina! I didn't make it to the reunion either, although it would have been fun to see people. I definitely want to go to the 20th though! It would be fun to see you and catch up, love your blog.

  2. Mine was last summmer. I want to the casual welcome event, but not the main event (I sort of chickened out, plus it was tres-expensive). It was a little awkward, especially once you got beyond the "how are you, what have you been doing?" conversation. My mom said the 10 years are always awkward, but the 20 year reunion is fun because everyone is grown up and doing their own thing by then.

    1. My mom's said the same thing about the 20th being better, less people trying to impress everyone.

  3. I think this picture was your first day of school pic senior year, right? A little wave is better than nothing. It was so fun to catch up with you, Jen.
