Holiday Reading

Do you have a book you like to reread every year at Christmastime?

The other day, my friend Danielle suggested Wuthering Heights.  In The Proposal, Sandra Bullock's character mentions she reads it every Christmas. It's been on my to read list for years, so I thought I'd give it a go this year. I knew it was a dark and brooding gothic novel, which isn't typically what puts me in the holiday spirit,  but I have to say I'm definitely enjoying it. (Teresa, who loves the Brontë Sisters' writing, suggested that Wuthering Heights might be more of a January read).

My typical holiday read every couple of years is Little Women

This Christmas I've been inspired to read Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe again as well. It's got me hungry for Turkish Delight.

Dicken's A Christmas Carol is on the list to attempt yet again this year. Perhaps enough years have passed since my childhood that I'll be able to picture a version of Scrooge that isn't Scrooge McDuck...one can hope.

PSThe Story of Holly and Ivy was my very favorite Christmas book growing up. I still take out every year with my Christmas decorations and read every December. One of Teresa's childhood favorites is The Christmas Day Kitten.

  1. Awwww... I forgot about The Christmas Day Kitten... I think Laura has the copy we used to read. James Herriot is the best animal author. I just borrowed an old vintage copy of Wuthering heights, it looks and feels like the story reads.

  3. I just re-read the available pages on Amazon of Holly and Ivy. What a great memory, Jenny. Glad you still love it.
