Friday Roundup

Happy Friday! I've got a busy couple of weeks ahead of me, so while I'll be spending the weekend working. I am thankful that my job involves working with my husband and friends! It's almost like hanging out and enjoying the summer! But I will be daydreaming of floating in a body of water somewhere in the middle of nowhere.

Clueless turns 20 (yikes!)

Are you going to read Harper Lee's To Set a Watchman

Like many fans of Harper Lee's To Kill a Mocking Bird I've been up and down on this, wondering if Harper Lee wanted it to see the light of day, etc. But curiosity got the best of me and I preordered the book on Amazon, before anyone had read it, before the first chapter was available online and before any of the reviews had come out.

Then, in the last few days, I've been reading reviews. Here's what the NY Times had to say yesterday. And here's a great blog post about if from author Jennie Spor, which speaks on how authors don't want people to see their first drafts of things. It arrived on my doorstep first thing this morning and now, I'm not sure what to do!?!

Another Summer Hair Braid

I like to call this one the "Jane Austin." It actually didn't take that long, I just divided my hair in half down the middle, did two French braids on each side and secured the ends with hair ties. Then I used bobby pins to twist the two ends up into each other and secure them to the base of my head. Took about 10-15 minutes total (not counting my intensive selfie photo shoot). It was way easier to do this now that I have shorter hair but when I took it down I was hoping for "beach waves" and instead my hair was just plain crazy. So it will have to be a "day three" hairdo next time!

Friday Roundup

Happy Friday! Hope you have some fun plans for the weekend! We will be at one of our favorite places, Cannon Beach, Oregon. I can't wait to watch Mylo playing on the beach and sip a cold glass of wine with the sea wind on my face.

Here are some links to get us started:

These pictures of the princess are too cute.

I want to parent like these people. Also, a trip to Mexico City is at the top of my bucket list.

This cake is SOOO cute, perfect for a b-day or gender reveal.

This is old but I found it insightful, "How not to say the wrong thing."

Lovely barn conversion on Whidbey Island.

Inspiration for a summer picnic in the park.

A new way to think about disciplining children.

Four thrilling summer reads.

Baby Shower in the Park

A couple weeks back I attend the cutest, laid back baby shower at Woodland Park here in Seattle. Danielle and Alicia put together the vintage travel themed decor and the casual/smart/playful vibe of the event perfectly captured my friend Calen's style.

Calen's maiden name was King and it's going to be the baby boy's middle name so they were able to capture that fun detail in the pendants. With the shower being at a park they put wine in mason jars to make it a little more discreet (and so fun!). Dinner was artisan sandwiches with mixed green salads that they boxed up and had ready to eat. Instead of cake or cupcakes there were chocolate chip cookies and Calen's favorite, Swedish Fish (plus popcorn and cherries on the blankets.)

Instead of traditional baby shower games, we played FRIENDS baby trivia (Calen's favorite show/obsession) and the prize was a gift card to her favorite restaurant. The whole party was so personalized and fun, nothing felt forced like it sometimes can at a baby shower.

We can't wait to meet Baby James King in August! Here are a few pictures of the decor. (And yes, I finally found a romper/jumpsuit at Zara!)

Our 4th of July!

We had a great 4th of July holiday in Tacoma with Patrick's family. This year early in the morning on the 4th we joined in a little neighborhood parade which felt so small towny and quaint in the best way. Mylo and his cousin Kenedee had the best time marching around, playing with flags, and eating lots of donuts.

Fourth of July Wedding

I couldn't wait to share a couple of photos from our wedding this past weekend. Our friends Tim Lopez and Jenna Reeves, who met on the reality dating show, Ready for Love tied the knot at the Santa Barbara Historical Museum.

Tim's mom and sister of La Fete worked with the couple to make the wedding gorgeous in a way that was uniquely them.

Jason and I first got to know Tim and Jenna when worked with Tim on a music video for his band, The Plain White T's.  At that point, they hadn't been dating long we're having to hide their relationship because the TV show was still airing! I have to say, I'm not someone who's ever really been into watching any sort of reality dating show. I've always been totally skeptical that it would be possible to find love on reality TV, but these two are the real deal, incredibly compatible and completely in love with each other.

If you're interested, here's People.com's article on their big day, complete with  more photos by Jason :)
