Friday Roundup

I'm finishing up this post while eating a giant bowl of strawberries and it's still light out past 9:00. I'm in my happy place. Summer. I wait all year for this moment, and when it comes, I feel like I never manage to enjoy it enough. Although, I do try my best! I've been known to try and send emails while laying in the sun, never mind that it's practically impossible to see the computer screen. There's a barbecue in my weekend plans and maybe a short trip up to Vancouver. I hope that wherever you are, you get to enjoy the solstice. OH and Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there!

Literary Road Trips...I've always wanted to go Green Gables!

What's your hippie name?

Flamingos, doughnuts and other fun pool floats to make your summer more fun.

I want to see this!

What lady would you like to see on the $10 bill?

Google's Sheep View is pretty awesome if you're looking to kill some time.

Beauty advice from dads

Coffee nap

I took Cup of Jo's advice and checked out the Mortified podcast. I can't recommend it enough!

Anniversary Weekend in Eastern Washington

Last weekend Patrick, Mylo and I headed over the mountains to stay near Cle Elum for the weekend. I finally bought a child carrier for hiking (should have done this a year ago!) used online and we were able to go for two fun hikes as a family. It was so nice to get out of the city and into nature, Mylo loved it. We stayed at my family cabin and found this wedding picture of us SEVEN years ago on the refrigerator. It was great to sit outside, drink some wine, and laugh about how young we were and how much we've grown up. What a great start to our summer!
Mylo is obsessed with holding our hands and jumping, swinging or being tossed in the air. Pure bliss.

Wedding Wednesday

Here's a shot from our wedding last week on the beach in Santa Monica. I LOVED Tania's headpiece which was from Lovella Bridal

Summer Hair Style: Braided Headband

Lately I’ve been making it my goal to only wash my hair twice a week. My new haircut has a lot of versatility in how I can style it and with a little (or a lot, let’s be honest) dry shampoo I can usually make it a solid 3-4 days without shampooing. One of my go-to styles for the weekend on day three or four of not washing has been to do a front French braid along my forehead. It’s relatively easy braid to master with a little practice and gets the now powdery hair out of my face.

What are your go-to summer styles?

Friday Roundup

Happy Friday! What are you up to this weekend? I took the day off and we are headed over to Eastern Washington to celebrate our anniversary! We finally got a child carrier for hiking so we are going to hit the trails. I'm excited to get out of the city.

Here are some links to get us started:

This looks like it's going to be hilarious to me.

Love the mix of old and new in this Seattle home renovation (blocks from us!).

There are two kinds of people in this world, which are you?

These look delicious and "healthy."

Enjoying Engagement

I LOVE this engagement photo taken my my good friend Johnny of Mazagran Photo. When I saw it, I knew I wanted to post it on the blog with just a short quick note to all of you our there who are planning your wedding.

It's not anything huge that I have to say. Just a reminder to enjoy being engaged. That is all. When you fall down a pinterest rabbit hole of wedding DIY projects, or find yourself tossing and turning at 3 am wondering if you made the right choice on the towels you registered for, or your fighting over the guest list or how much it's costing or what suit he will wear- don't forget why you're doing it all. It's because you found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with and in comparison, nothing else really matters.

Hair Trick

I read this article a while back about tricks for parting your hair and changing your look. I decided to try parting my hair on the opposite side for the first time....ever. I have been parting my hair on the left side for about 15 years because I always thought my cowlick meant I had to. The first couple of times I did it I had to blow dry my hair in the opposite direction to get it to stay but IT WAS AMAZING. My hair has so much more volume and entirely covers up my cowlick on the other side.

The first day I tried it I looked in the mirror and was convinced that everyone who saw me was going to make comments all day because it just looked so so different to me. But guess what...no one noticed, not even Patrick or my closest colleagues. I had quite a few comments that my hair looked good or had more volume but no one even noticed that I had reversed my normal part. Which I think is actually a good thing.

Anyway, if you want an experiment this summer give it a try. The one thing I did have to do was tell my hair colorist so that she could add some extra highlights on the other side of my head. Waa la! New summer look.
