Enjoying January
Tuesday, January 7, 2014
Why is it always so depressing to take down Christmas decorations? It's like the fun part of winter is over and now we have to hunker down and survive the blah-ness that is January-March. So, for me, this is the perfect time to write a list, reminding myself of all the things I enjoy about winter...
2. Sweaters, slippers, tea, candles and all other things cosy and warm.
3. Fires in the fireplace. Even though it's no longer Christmastime, this still makes things feel festive.
4. Not feeling guilty about wasting a day by curling up inside with a good book (I just started this one...
). If it's rainy and grey, you might as well be inside!
5. Award Season. Each year Teresa makes a goal to watch all of the Academy Awards Best Picture nominees.
6. Great TV! The Sochi Olympics start in February and Downton Abbey is back on PBS and it's a great time to catch up on shows you might have missed. I have no idea how I missed the memo on Orphan Black (BBC America) and Bletchley Circle (available on Netflix). I'm starting those now.
7. Healthy living. Whether it's on Pinterest, Facebook or even emails from my favorite yoga studio, inspiration to be healthier abounds in January. It's a great time to jump on the bandwagon and make positive changes. Lets face it, we have no real excuse to eat an entire box of chocolate in one sitting until Valentines Day.
New Work Wardrobe
Are there any Scandal fans out there? I admit the show is RIDICULOUS but oh so entertaining. I binged watched every episode over "Christmas break" and now am dying to revamp my work wardrobe. Kerry Washington's clothes as Washington DC fixer Olivia Pope are feminine, yet work appropriate. And I LOVE all of the gorgeous wool coats she sports throughout the three seasons. I'm keeping my eye on winter sales now hoping I can snag a good deal on a grey or creme wool coat.
Also, I gave in and joined Stitchfix now that I'm back into more normal sizes. My first shipment of clothing arrives in a couple of weeks, I'll let you know how it goes.

I love this quote from The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It makes me want to hug people and tell them they deserve all the love in the world.
Friday Roundup

Happy Friday!
It's been a fairly slow post-Christmas week, around here. Teresa and I rang in the New Year on the couch with an Anne of Green Gables marathon. I've LOVED being home, getting time to relax and catch up on things. We are going to a wedding tomorrow and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing friends, being social and having a fun excuse to get all dolled up (as my grandma would have called it).
Here are a few fun things to entertain you into the weekend...
RIP James Avery (akaUncle Phil)
New music from Mary Lambert, who I love. Great stuff.
And because I can't ever seem to get enough Sound of Music humor...
Thanks to Apartment Therapy, I've joined what seems to be a self help group for cleaning and organizing one's home...
This woman only consumed Starbucks food and drink for a year.
Also, I'm excited for the Veronica Mars movie.
Myles: Five Months Old
Thursday, January 2, 2014

I'm a little late on Myles' 5 month pictures...but better late than never right? I'm loving this age, he seems to be developing new skills and cute little quirks every day. He has this curious little look like the picture below like he is pondering life. We had a wonderful Christmas with both sides of the family, I will post some pictures soon recapping the past couple of weeks.
Happy New Year!
Fourteen for '14
Wednesday, January 1, 2014
Each year, I make a list of goals, not really resolutions, but positive changes, none the less. Here are my 14 goals for 2014...
1. Stay in touch with friends and family while out of town & be more intentional about seeing people while I'm in town. Liking their Instagram photos doesn't count.
2. Floss!
3. Procrastinate less. No more waiting till the last minute to finish work projects.
4. Find a way to exercise while traveling & actually do it. Suggestions anyone? I'm not above doing yoga moves in airports.
5. Organize our clothes once and for all. Our bedroom is a constant disaster area.
6. Save. Buy less frivolous things that I don't need, eat out less (when possible) and actually put $ into a my savings account.
7. Drink more water. I stole this one from last year's list, trying again...
8. Journal I just started a 5 year journal I got for my birthday, I'd love to keep it up.
9. Learn a new and useful skill. Speaking Japanese, how to sew a button, etc.
10. Take a vacation. An actual vacation, not a trip where we are working.
11. Give more. I want to give more time & money to the causes we love and support.
12. Spend more time working on JKoe. Updating the website, fb page, etc. There are so many pretty pictures we should be sharing!
13. Keep up on current events. I was super out of it this past year.
14. Love. I'm not entirely how to explain this one, but at the end of the year, I want to look back able to say that I'm a better version of me- that I have grown, that I have more patience and that I better love people around me, even when I'm tired or hangry, that I have a better relationship with Jason, that I am wiser, less judgmental, kinder and more joyful. I don't dislike myself now, but there is always room for improvement!
How did I do with my last year's goals?
You can read my Thirteen for '13 here. 2013 was a very crazy, unpredictably wonderful, adventurous year. I feel like I did a great job with some of the goals being thankful, riding my bike, etc. Unfortunately I didn't really have time to fulfill some of my more home oriented goals, like inviting people over for dinner or sending out a Christmas card. Oops. This year, since I already know I'll be out of town a lot, so I've stuck with goals that will hopefully better fit my year.
