An Ode to YM

In the Friday Roundup last week, I made one random reference to my favorite magazine of the 90's, YM, this lead me down a virtual rabbit hole of nostalgia. This pretty much sums up middle school for me.

Who else read YM? Lets all just take a moment to remember when magazines were cool and we didn't use the internet to constantly stay up to date on what celebrities were doing and how we should part our hair. I can still recall how one rainy winter day in 1998 suddenly became AMAZING when I arrived home from 8th grade to find Prince William in my mailbox.

Congratulations Jo and Tiffany!

I have a new sister-in-law! Patrick's brother Jordan married his beautiful bride Tiffany a couple of weeks back in a lovely ceremony down in Tacoma. It was a wonderful wedding, the bride and groom and their attendants looked gorgeous (our niece Kenedee was ADORABLE in a black tutu), the food was delicious and we had a lot of fun introducing Myles to family and friends. He wore his best wedding duds and for the most part he didn't fuss with all the loud noises and new people. So excited to welcome Tiffany to the family -- congrats you two!!

Seattle Spotlight: Westward

Patrick and I are thrilled that a new restaurant on north Lake Union just opened blocks from our house. It's called Westward and has an delicious, seafood inspired menu, sleek but quirky decor and awesome outdoor seating options with great views. The owners have also started a little grocery store called Little Gull inside the restaurant that sells wine, gourmet cheese and charcuterie, and other small bites. We've been there twice for happy hour now and had some great food and drinks (the lamb burger and calamari are two of our favorites). They have a fire pit outside for nice days and a dock for boats to park in the summer. Definitely worth checking out, by land or sea!

Wedding Traditions (#4)

The tradition of "Something Blue" isn't just there to conveniently complete the rhyme. In Victorian times and all the way back to Rome, blue (not white) was a symbol of purity, as well as love, loyalty and fidelity.

I created a board on Pinterest with all sorts of "Something Blue" ideas for you to check out... but first, can you spot Kari's bit of blue in the photo? If you look closely, you'll see a little tiny dot of blue on the top right of the back of her dress. It's a tiny whale!

Adding a bit of blue to your wedding can be as simple as a blue garter or as creative and personalized as you want to get. If you want to do the tradition, but blue totally clashes with your wedding colors, how about these?

PS. Did you know there's a last line to the poem? The full poem goes "Something Olde, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue, and A Sixpence in your Shoe". The sixpence (or penny in the U.S.) was a symbol of future prosperity.

Myles' Birth Announcement Photos

I realized that I never posted the wonderful pictures that Jason took of Mylo when he was only one week old for his birth announcement. Better late than never right?? I can't believe how much he has grown and changed in such a short period of time. Particularly the last 3-4 weeks, he went from the 20th percentile in weight to the 47th! He is over 13 lbs now, I'll post some pictures later this week.

Socks!

This is a post about socks. Because I have a lot of random ones.
A few years ago, Jason and I went to visit my sister Stephanie, who is a teacher in Korea. We quickly discovered that crazy socks were all the rage.

My sister explained to us, that schools in Korea are super strict about uniforms, but it's not just the clothes. Girls can't wear makeup, and even hair must be within certain lengths. So basically, the crazy sock trend grew out of the youth culture's need to find ways to express their individuality. In the U.S., you'd find a kid wearing a t-shirt with their favorite band on it, in Korea, their music preference is on their feet.

Jason and I picked up a ton while we were there with Batman, Starbucks logos, Mario, Obama, etc. Most recently, my sister sent me an awesome Gangnam Style pair.
