Friday Roundup
Friday, October 4, 2013
Jason and I shot a wedding in Napa last weekend, this is my instagram of the reception setup. Don't you want to dine here? I loved the simple table design and the view wasn't to shabby either.
Meanwhile, back in Seattle, I can't believe it's October already. I'm in full on fall mode at this point- the boots, scarves and rain jackets all having been dug out of the depths of my closet.
Thanks to the comments and encouraging texts from friends and family, I might just have to write that romance novel after all, although I fear it would turn out more of a work of comedy...
And other fun things...
Episode 1 of the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis World Tour videos...I'm excited to join these guys on the road later this month.
The best October quote...
If I lived here I'd always be relaxed. I would take the time to compost and I'd spend my days curled up reading long novels and hosting casual brunches.
The Cutest animals on Instagram...
How well do you read emotion? Take this quiz! (It's in the NY Times, so it's legit, although it kind of reminded me of taking quizzes in Seventeen and YM back in the day.)
Banksy does NYC
Sinead O'Connor's open letter to Miley Cyrus, generally this isn't my sort of thing, but I have a lot of respect for the advice given.
Awesome coat for little kids since this doesn't come in my size, I might have to get one for Mylo.
Embracing Autumn
Thursday, October 3, 2013
1. Books... Fall is the perfect time to curl up with a good book. Due to my crazy schedule, I've turned to audiobooks. I'm currently enjoying Wyclef Jean's memoir, Purpose: An Immigrant's Story
2. Tea... Roobios has been my go-to this week. It just makes me warm and happy inside AND different teas have lots of different positive health benefits.
3. Baking...We're on a Snickerdoodle kick at my house.
How are you enjoying autumn so far? I'm always open for other suggestions!
*Did I suck you in with my AMAZING title for this post? If I ever write a trashy romance novel I think I'll call it Embracing Autumn. It'll be about an average girl named Autumn who has seasonal depression. She will be plucked out of dreary Seattle by a handsome young billionaire who is instantly memorized by Autumn's ghostly pale skin and mousy hair that's perpetually damp and frizzy from the rain. He will whisk her to his private island in the Caribbean where seasons don't exist and it's summer forever. Naturally I'll write a sequel to this book in which we find out that the billionaire is no longer attracted to Autumn once she's tan and happy. It turns out he only likes the super depressed ones. Autumn will discover that she doesn't need a billionaire to be happy and will move to a nearby island and become a yoga instructor and write a best selling memoir about her experiences.
Fall Favorites: Apples!
Wednesday, October 2, 2013
As you likely know, the great state of Washington is known for our abundant and delicious apples. I have a lot of family that grew up in eastern WA picking apples growing up -- we love our apples here. Now that Mylo is becoming more easy going and grown up I'm getting back in the kitchen and cooking up some fall treats. I've been searching the internet for easy and interesting apple recipes and here's what I've come up with.
Apple pancake - how delicious does this look? Plus I can finally use my cast iron skillet.
Baked apples stuffed with oatmeal and brown sugar. This looks so easy and tasty.
Grilled cheese with bacon, apple and sprouts.
Baked apple cider donut holes. Yes, please.
Chunky apple muffins - Look great for breakfast
PS. Five wonderful apple Pinterest boards.

Wedding Traditions (#3)
1. PLANNED... There are a couple of wedding items that you really don't need to own, things you'll spend too much money on to wear for the day and never think about again. Passing them on to friends can become a fun tradition.
My college roommates & I all wore the same garter and then passed it along to the next bride to be.
Veils are another great option to share and I know of groups of friends who have done that as well.
Shoes! If you have a friend with the same sized feet, why not wear a pair that's already been broken in.
Also, think beyond what you wear as a bride. Borrowing from friends and family can be a great way to include them in the festivities and perhaps save you some money and add some more character to your wedding. Borrow the cool vintage car sitting in your groomsman's parent's garage (we did!) or "borrow" your aunt's amazing hand writing to write the seating chart.
Decorations are another GREAT thing to borrow/share with friends. Cake platters, vases, picture frames, etc. If you're planning a wedding, start looking at your recently married friends' Facebook photos, maybe there's something there you can use.
2. UNPLANNED... My favorite thing about "something borrowed" is it's way of turning a bride's moment of panic ("OH NO! I FORGOT MY ________") into a happy moment of tradition. When a bridesmaid quickly offers up her earrings/mascara/bra/deodorant/perfume it completely defuses the situation and immediately cuts out the stress.

Rain Diaries
Tuesday, October 1, 2013
Meet Zoe Rain. She's our JKoe associate photographer and currently traveling around Europe documenting the day to day life of the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis world tour. Zoe's keeping track of her experiences on her blog, Rain Diaries, which I highly recommend you check out. She's taken some amazing photos.
For most of October-December, I'll be joining the tour, along with Jason, and living on a bus crisscrossing the US. Sadly, Jason and I were too booked for September to join the tour in Europe, so I have to live vicariously through Zoe and her blog.
Myles' Nursery
I finally got around to taking some photos of Myles' nursery this weekend! It was a labor of love for me and definitely reflects my eclectic (random) style. I love to just take all my favorite colorful things and put them together, the only real themes for the room were bright colors and funny animals. Huge thanks to my friend Victor who refurbished and painted the gorgeous poppy dresser and made Mylo's changing table.
"The Future is Bright" was made by my friend Jimmy.
Love his tiny sweatshirts.
The rug from West Elm was my inspiration for the room.
Love his Jelly Cat animals! Dino, Squirrelly and Wally.
